Meta VR Glasses Announced: It’s Not Quest 4—Here’s What’s Coming

Meta’s next major VR device has an official name: Meta VR Glasses. Announced at Meta Connect 2026, the new system compresses high-end virtual and mixed reality into a glasses-like, roughly 100-gram headset connected to a pocket-size compute puck. Meta says it will launch in spring 2027 for $1,299.99 in the United States.

One point is worth making immediately: Meta VR Glasses is not Quest 4. Meta did not announce a Quest 4 at Connect 2026. Instead, VR Glasses introduces a new two-part form factor while retaining access to the Meta Quest content ecosystem.

Why Meta VR Glasses is not Quest 4

The “Quest 4” label would suggest a direct replacement for the familiar standalone headset. Meta VR Glasses takes a different path. The glasses contain the displays, optics, cameras, sensors, and audio hardware, while compute, battery, and storage move to a puck connected by a light optical tether. That separation is what makes the headset dramatically lighter and eliminates the usual head strap.

The new device still runs Meta’s VR platform and supports the full Quest catalog, but its priorities are different: portability, display clarity, media, productivity, and all-day carry. Its field of view is narrower than the roughly 110° horizontal view of Quest 3, and Touch Plus controllers are optional rather than included by default.

A premium display in a glasses-like design

Meta’s custom pancake optics and micro-OLED panels are the centerpiece. The company calls the result a 5K Infinite Display with 37 pixels per degree—an important number for readable text, crisp virtual monitors, movies, and fine visual detail. UploadVR reports two 2412 × 2288 panels running at up to 120Hz, along with 12GB of memory, 128GB of storage, microSD expansion, and higher-resolution color passthrough.

The magnesium-alloy frame is designed for strength and passive cooling. Open sides let users maintain natural peripheral awareness, while cameras provide full-color passthrough through the display area. Optional light blockers can create a more enclosed viewing experience. Prescription glasses cannot be worn underneath, but Meta plans prescription inserts priced at $100.

Meta AI, eyes, hands, and optional controllers

Meta AI is integrated into the operating system. Users can speak naturally, look at an interface element, and use hand gestures to launch apps, arrange windows, search, or start media. At launch, Meta says more than 75 games will be playable using hand gestures alone.

For traditional VR input, Meta VR Glasses supports Touch Plus controllers, including compatible controllers from an existing Meta Quest 3 or Meta Quest 3S. Controllers will be sold separately, and Meta says a controller bundle will be offered through some retail channels.

Movies, streaming, sports, and gaming

Meta is positioning VR Glasses as a personal cinema and courtside seat. It is the first IMAX Enhanced-certified VR device, with support for select films in IMAX’s expanded aspect ratio. Disney is bringing 3D titles and immersive viewing environments to Disney+, while the Disney Immersive Cinema by ILM app will transform the space around the viewer with themed environments, effects, 3D visuals, and spatial audio.

Announced media partners include Prime Video, YouTube, DIRECTV, AMC+, Crunchyroll, Plex, Tubi, Peacock, HBO Max, and Paramount+. Meta also plans immersive sports experiences with ESPN, MLB, NBC Sports, TNT Sports, and UFC, targeting more than 100 live immersive sports events per year after launch.

Gaming includes the full Meta Quest catalog with optional Touch Plus controllers, hand-tracked titles, Xbox Cloud Gaming with a Bluetooth gamepad, and big-screen play from a compatible handheld or other connected device.

A portable multi-screen workspace

VR Glasses can create one large private display or several virtual monitors almost anywhere. Meta says any table can become a surface keyboard and touchpad for lightweight tasks. For a complete setup, users can connect a Mac or Windows PC wirelessly or over USB-C, then work with their own keyboard and mouse while full-color passthrough keeps the desk, phone, and surroundings visible.

Meta is also introducing Hologram, a photorealistic avatar system for video calls. It is designed to carry real-time expressions into services such as WhatsApp and Zoom, while other VR Glasses users can see a life-size spatial representation with directional audio.

What this means for Quest 3 and Quest 3S

Meta VR Glasses expands the lineup rather than replacing today’s Quest headsets. Quest 3 remains the stronger all-in-one choice for users who want a wider field of view, included controllers, and a conventional immersive headset. Quest 3S remains the most accessible route into Meta’s mixed-reality ecosystem for schools, businesses, training programs, and first-time teams.

Because VR Glasses shares the Meta Quest software ecosystem, organizations already investing in Quest content and Touch Plus input should have a more straightforward path to evaluating the new form factor.

Meta VR Glasses is coming to Knoxlabs

Knoxlabs plans to add Meta VR Glasses to our lineup as availability opens. As a Meta Premier Partner, we will help businesses, schools, and enterprise teams evaluate the device, compare it with Quest 3 and Quest 3S, and plan deployment, accessories, support, and device-management requirements.

Until then, explore the current Meta collection at Knoxlabs, shop Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 3S, or contact our XR team for guidance on upcoming projects.

Specifications, pricing, partner services, and launch timing are based on information announced at Meta Connect 2026 and may change before release.
