Varjo XR-4 Secure Edition (2023 – Legacy)

The Varjo XR-4 Secure Edition (2023) is designed for high-security and classified environments such as government, defense, aerospace, and secure research facilities. Manufactured in Finland and fully TAA-compliant, this legacy Secure model is built to meet strict procurement, compliance, and operational security requirements.

The 2023 Secure lineup is available in two camera configurations: Secure Fixed Focus and Secure Autofocus (Focal). Both variants share the same secure hardware platform and visual fidelity, with the primary difference being passthrough camera behavior. The Secure Fixed Focus Edition provides consistent, high-quality mixed reality passthrough, while the Secure Autofocus Edition dynamically adjusts focus to enhance clarity for near-field tasks, detailed instrumentation, and fine text.

Secure Fixed Focus Edition (2023)

Secure Fixed Focus Edition

• Description: Fixed-focus passthrough optimized for secure, mission-ready deployments.
• Ideal For: Environments requiring consistent visual performance without dynamic focus changes.
• Tracking Options: Inside-out tracking or SteamVR (outside-in) tracking.

Secure Autofocus (Focal) Edition

• Description: Adds autofocus passthrough for enhanced near- and far-field clarity.
• Ideal For: High-precision training, detailed simulations, and complex operational scenarios.
• Tracking Options: Inside-out tracking or SteamVR (outside-in) tracking.

Secure Autofocus – No Radio (Non-RF)

• Description: Secure Autofocus Edition with all wireless radio components removed.
• Ideal For: Classified and air-gapped environments where RF emissions must be eliminated.
• Tracking Options: Inside-out or SteamVR (outside-in) tracking.

The No Radio (Non-RF) configuration removes all wireless communication components from the headset. This prevents the emission or reception of radio signals and is required for certain classified government, defense, and secure research environments.

TAA compliance ensures the XR-4 Secure Edition meets U.S. federal procurement requirements under the Trade Agreements Act. This is mandatory for many government agencies and contractors and confirms the product’s approved manufacturing origin and supply chain.

Outside-in SteamVR tracking uses external base stations to deliver extremely high positional accuracy. This option is available as a factory configuration for the XR-4 Secure Edition and is commonly used in fixed simulator environments requiring maximum tracking precision.

Which camera options are available?
Secure Fixed Focus and Secure Autofocus (Focal) are both available in the 2023 Secure Edition.

Is SteamVR tracking supported?
Yes. SteamVR (outside-in) tracking is available as a factory configuration.

Is a non-RF version available?
Yes. A No Radio (Non-RF) configuration is available with the Secure Autofocus Edition.
