Google Reveals Gemini-Powered Intelligent Eyewear with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker

Google’s Next Step in AI Glasses

At Google I/O 2026, Google shared a new look at intelligent eyewear powered by Gemini and Android XR. The idea is simple but powerful: glasses that can give you help in the moment without forcing you to pull out your phone.

According to Google, there will be two types of intelligent eyewear: audio glasses, which provide spoken help through the frame, and display glasses, which can show useful information privately when needed. Audio glasses are expected to launch first, later this fall.

Designed with Gentle Monster and Warby Parker

One of the most important parts of this announcement is the design direction. Smart glasses only work if people actually want to wear them every day. That is why Google is working with Samsung and eyewear brands Gentle Monster and Warby Parker to create frames that feel closer to everyday eyewear, not bulky tech hardware.

What the Glasses Can Do

Google says users will be able to say “Hey Google” or tap the side of the frame to access Gemini. From there, the glasses can help with everyday tasks while keeping users hands-free and heads-up.

  • Ask about what you see: Get help understanding signs, places, objects, or information around you.
  • Navigation: Receive more natural turn-by-turn directions based on your location and orientation.
  • Hands-free communication: Manage calls, send texts, and summarize missed messages.
  • Photo and video capture: Capture moments without reaching for your phone.
  • Real-time translation: Translate speech or written text on signs, menus, and other surfaces.
  • App support: Google says the glasses will pair with both Android and iOS phones.

Why This Matters for XR and AI Wearables

For the XR industry, this is another sign that wearable computing is moving beyond headsets alone. AI glasses are becoming a serious category because they combine lightweight design, voice interaction, cameras, speakers, and AI assistance into a form factor people can use throughout the day.

At Knoxlabs, we see this as part of a larger shift: XR and AI wearables are becoming more practical, more stylish, and more connected to everyday workflows. This matters for consumers, but also for businesses, education teams, field workers, training programs, and developers looking for new ways to interact with digital information in the real world.
